How can a 2001 Buick Century passed down from my grandma be so hard to part with?
Sometimes it's hard to let go. I've had a few opportunities to trade, sell, or procure a different vehicle by other means, but I just can't do it. I'm dying to get into a Subaru, to get something manual, just something different.
Yet, I get 30mpg on the highway. Long trips are like riding a sofa floating on clouds. My stereo kicks ass. And who doesn't love brown? Sorry- Desert Sand Metallic.
It's not a perfect car. It has been fairly reliable, and I know it will break 200k with some tender loving care. Yet the inevitable intake manifold gasket failure (or thousand dollar repair) and other various GM flaws (I have replaced EVERY window motor) mean it isn't going to be a totally smooth journey. The thing is though, I know what's wrong with her (her: Catherine), and there will not be any big surprises. Subarus and many other brands have much better reliability ratings, yet the used market is filled with surprises.
I just can't seem to take that leap and get into something unknown, yet possible more satisfying.
How do you say goodbye?

OMFG I have 2 friends with that exact car just a 99, and 2000. Those window motors suck. Watch out for weird dash problems the 99 doesn't have dash lights anymore and the odometer is out on the 2000 so be warned.

I had the odometer display go out, actually. My dad is an electrical engineer and fixed it on the cheap- good as new. If you want, I can try to direct you to the how-to online. The fix doesn't reset the odometer or anything, just fixed a bad connection in the actual display.
And yes, the back motors push as a snails pace after being replaced. In the cold, it's even worse.
